Here’s your chance to take part in the annual Trash Cannes Film Challenge and Coastal Currents Arts Festival during September. Sign up for the challenge on Saturday 29th August between 11-3pm at Reel at the Kino-Teatr, St Leonards.
All films will be screened at the festival showcase event at Printworks, Hastings on the 20th September. There are generous prizes awarded for best film, actor, cinematography, soundtrack, judges choice and audience choice.
Originally known as the Hastings 5-Day Film Challenge, this event has been a staple in Hastings for over 20 years. Twelve years ago, it was revitalized by Trash Cannes, a collective dedicated to promoting events in the Hastings area with a DIY ethos. Today, it stands as one of the highlights of the Hastings calendar, attracting filmmakers ranging from complete novices to seasoned professionals. The challenge provides a unique opportunity to unleash your creativity and discover what you can accomplish in just five days.

You just pick a title, a genre and a prop out of a hat, then you have five days to make a three minute film on that subject. Online applications will receive a random selection.
If you’re new to film making we can help you get started. We recommend dedicating the first day to scriptwriting, two days filming and two days editing.
There is a joining fee of £20 per film to cover event costs. However we hope to offer limited free entry for first time film makers through the Coastal Currents Arts Festival.
Once you have finished your films at the end of the five days you can email them to us at trashcannesfilm@gmail.com via wetransfer, or alternatively hand them in on a USB stick to one of our organisers.
